Ariadne's Thread Group invites you to participate in KANTHAS OF FRIENDSHIP a community project based on traditional crafts, textile recycling and cross-cultural collaborations.
Join FREE workshops:
FRIDAYS 12:30 - 2PM from 10 January - 18 April at KINGSTON MUSEUM
TUESDAYS 4, 11 February, 12:30 - 2PM, then every two weeks until April at STANLEY PICKER GALLERY
PROJECT DETAILS
The aim is to produce textile artworks from recycled lightweight scarves for an event in July 2025. The timeline of the course is 3 months.
Initial workshops will include learning the kantha stitch technique, block printing and practicing embroidery designs on samples. Following the workshops, the group will meet on Fridays weekly to share the progress. Embroidery can continue at home individually or in pairs.
EVENTS
This is a Borough-wide participation with meetings taking place in different locations. There will be a multi-group gathering at the end of the course with demonstrations and talks including an opportunity to share experiences and meet the other participants.
Final event showcasing all of the completed textiles will take place on Saturday 19 July as a part of Kingston 2025 Celebrations. Location and times TBC.
