Join us for an afternoon of performances, workshops, and exhibitions from some of the most exciting music makers in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.

Performances

Look forward to a performance every half hour from young musicians across the borough, kicked off by the choir of All Saints Church. These casual performances are an opportunity to take a break from the exhibitions.

12.00 - Choir of All Saints Church
Known nationally for the quality of their music making, the Choir of All Saints Church open our event today performing some of their extensive repertoire. With a busy schedule balancing external performances and recordings with their liturgical obligations at the Church, and a history dating back to the 16th Century, theirs is a performance not to be missed. 

13.00 - Kingston Music Service
A celebration of brass musicianship, today’s performers represent the hundreds of young people who learn an instrument through Kingston Music Service.

13.30 - Community Drumming
Kingston Community Drumming is a Community Interest Company offering a variety of drumming workshops and performances to the Kingston Community. Community Drumming will perform several afro-brazilian rhythms from Salvador the Bahia followed by a drumming workshop open to 
all ages and abilities (no experience required). 

14.00 - Action Theatre Club [New Malden]
A showcase of the productions Action Theatre Club is proud to produce; to include singing and dancing to some of your favourite musical theatre hits. 

14.30 - Kingston University 
A taste of Kingston University’s vibrant and thriving music department, featuring performances from some of their current students. 

Workshops

Get involved in 15min taster sessions from some of our wonderful exhibitors. Places are limited to 20 participants per session on a first come first served basis; please visit our workshop station on the day to sign up for the sessions you would like to join.

12.40 - Kingston Music Service: UpBeat!
Suitable for: Children Aged 7-12
UpBeat is one of Kingston Music Service’s newest ensembles, offering young musicians the opportunity to learn how to play in an ensemble and work together to compose their own music, all whilst learning about the different sounds of the percussion world. Join leader Tom Early in a mini UpBeat session and get your creative sparks flowing!

13.00 - Kingston University: Sampling Workshop
Suitable for: Children of Any Age
Have you ever wondered how music is made digitally, or how your favourite artists create their signature sound? Join one of the Senior Lecturers from Kingston University to discover how sampling works, and how you can transform even the most basic and everyday sounds into a hit. 

13.40 - Community Drumming
Suitable for: All Ages
Kingston Community Drumming is a Community Interest Company offering a variety of drumming workshops and performances to the Kingston Community. During the workshop we will use several percussion instruments to learn how to play samba as a drumming band. Join us for a fun and festive workshop that will transport you to the Rio Carnival; open to all ages and abilities (no experience required).

14.00 - Story Storks
Suitable for: Children Aged 4-10
This July, Story Storks will be at the Rose Theatre performing King Athelstan, the Historically Funny tale of King Athelstan from Boy to King specially written for kids from 4 – 10 years.  Come take a sneaky peek at what's in store when we relive the coronation of King Athelstan in the church where it actually happened in 925AD!!

14.20 - Monkey Music
Suitable for: Children Aged 4 and Below
Join Karen and Monkey for a FREE musical experience during Music in Kingston – bring your singing voices, clapping hands and dancing bodies and get ready to have lots of fun. 

14.40 - Action Theatre Club [New Malden]

Exhibition

This is your opportunity to explore many of the amazing musical organisations active in the Royal Borough of Kingston. You will be able to:

  • Speak to our exhibitors about what they do
  • Try a variety of instruments
  • Learn about instrumental lessons, curricular music, and ensemble opportuities in the borough.

Our exhibitors will include:

Kingston Music Service, Monkey Music, Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra, Creative Youth, Kingston University, Action Theatre, Community Drumming, Coombe Academy of Performing Arts, Surbiton Royal British Legion Youth Marching Band, Story Storks, All Saints Choir, Voices of Hope, and Friends of Kingston Music Service.
