Our 100 Histories

Our 100 Histories is a year-long project aiming to celebrate the heritage of the borough, past and present.

Over the next year, we will be searching for the 100 Histories that residents and people connected to Kingston Upon Thames feel best represents the heritage of the borough using a digital map.

You can get involved by contributing stories, places, objects, events and people that you think are important to the culture and heritage of Kingston Upon Thames.

You don’t have to pin something to get involved though, help decide what makes it into Our 100 Histories by favouriting posts. These will then be used to tailor the development of events, collections and much more produced by Kingston Heritage Service.

LGBT+ History Month

February marks LGBT+ History Month, an important opportunity to increase the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (“LGBT+”) people, their history, lives and experiences.

We are proud to be an inclusive borough, and we always make an effort to celebrate and stand in solidarity with our communities. LGBT+ History month is also about learning. That is why we are asking you, our residents, to feed into our understanding of our local LGBT+ heritage. We know that these histories are often hidden, but that in Kingston we have a rich LGBT+ heritage that should be remembered and celebrated.

Councillor Tim Cobbett, Deputy Leader of Kingston Council and Portfolio Holder for Communities & Engagement

If you have any memories of events, people or places linked to LGBT+ heritage in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, we encourage you to add it to Our 100 Histories.

“We want to encourage everyone to think of heritage as broadly as possible, plot the stories, places, objects, events and people they want to remember, as well as share pieces of heritage that others may not be aware of. We hope that ‘Our 100 Histories’ will help all residents feel represented and excited about the borough's diverse heritage, as well as the collections at Kingston Museum and Kingston History Centre.”

Councillor Rebekah Moll, Portfolio Holder for Culture at Kingston Council
