Kingston Guildhall and History Centre

Open for visits 10.00-16.30, pre-booked tours at 10.30, 11.30, 12.30 and 14.30    

The Guildhall was designed by Sir Aston Webb in 1935 for the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames, to replace the old Council offices in Clattern House and the adjacent court buildings. Its unusual shape was designed to make the most of a small site. See the 'state' rooms in the Guildhall, only by guided tour on 14 September. The tours will include the Mayor's parlour, except the 14.30 tour.

The tours will start in the History Centre, where items on the history of the building will be on display. The History Centre will be open throughout the day (closed for lunch 13.00-14.00)"

Kingston Museum

Museum open from 10.00-17.00, tours at 11.00 and 14.00      

Kingston Museum, Art Gallery and Library are Grade II listed Carnegie buildings. The Museum tells the story of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames from its ancient origins to the current day, while the Library is a well used community hub.Especially for the festival local tour guide Julian McCarthy will host two guided tours of the museum, bringing his own quirky view of the building and Kingston's history.

Dorich House

Dorich House Museum, 67 Kingston Vale, SW15 3RN

The former studio home of the sculptor Dora Gordine and her husband the Hon. Richard Hare, a scholar of Russian art and literature. 1930s house over four floors including a flat roof terrace and views of Richmond Park.

Stanley Picker House, Kingston upon Thames, KT2 7HX    

Completed in 1968 by Kenneth Wood, the house is an untouched time capsule of 1960s colour, innovation and design, with interiors provided by the Conran Group. Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac on steeply sloping ground, the location was both an inspiration and a challenge for Ken Wood when creating the modern split-level design. The garden and pavilion gallery are also included in the tour.

Frederick W Paine Funeral Directors

The town's oldest firm of funeral directors has conducted funerals from these premises since 1908. The original interior is Grade II listed. The building also contains the Frederick W Paine Museum and the firm's archive.

St John the Evangelist, Kingston upon Thames

The church is a large Victorian building with an interesting and beautiful interior. The foundation stone was laid in 1871 by Bishop Samuel Wilberforce, son of the anti-slavery campaigner, William Wilberforce.

A Grade II listed Jacobean church (1611) built on Saxon ruins with a Victorian extension (1875) and a contemporary extension (2004) within a conservation area. Ancient fields and Hogsmill River nearby. Connections with Walter de Merton and Merton College Oxford, with his coat of arms in a heraldic window with 1611 glass. The artist Millais painted the background to ‘Ophelia’ on the nearby Hogsmill river. History boards with timeline from Early Iron Age.

Cleaves Almshouses

Grade II Listed Cleaves Almshouses is the oldest building on Old London Road, built in 17th Century. Back in 1665, William Cleave, in his legacy, created housing provision for older, poor people of Kingston. Today that legacy lives on.    For more details visit their Heritage Open Days page.

Explore our community garden - see how it has risen from a derelict site to a thriving, vibrant peaceful setting next to the Hogsmill river.  Arts and crafts for children, Kiddies' den, wormery and composting workshop.  Enjoy a delicious pizza. Plants for sale.    
Hogsmill Community Garden is open all year round Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 11:00 to 15:00. No pre-booked needed.

This parish church was built in 1875. We want to show you the church and tell you about how it came to be, share the bells and organ and show you the view from the tower and our plans for embroideries.  All with a cup of tea and cake No booking required.

The main part of the church is fully wheelchair accessible. Access to the choir stalls, organ console, high altar etc. necessitates portable wheelchair ramps, which are available. Access to the tower is very restricted due to the construction methods used in 1875 and is only available to fit and able people over 12 years old; a written waiver will be required from those wanting to access the tower.
