Panoramic Toys from The Bill Douglas Cinema Museum

The panorama contains ideas about perspective, immersion, and experiencing a world different from your own that are very similar to virtual reality today. The panorama was a popular entertainment from the 1790s to the 1860s. Smaller, more mobile versions and children’s toys using the effect remained popular long afterwards.

The exhibition features panoramic toys from the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum at the University of Exeter, which has the UK’s largest collection of panoramas.
