How to get involved with Our Kingston

We want as many people as possible to get invovled and you don't need any fancy equipment to do so!

  • You can use a mobile phone or laptop. If using a phone please film in portrait mode. If using a laptop don’t get too close to the screen, allow enough space around your face for us to crop the picture.
  • If possible lighting should come from the front or side, don’t film with your back to a window as we will not be able to see your face!
  • If possible please save your film in MP4 or WMV format.

What should be included?

We would like you to speak for about two-three minutes using the following questions as guidelines.  You don’t have to cover everything here, but we do need your name and who or what you represent.

  • Name and if appropriate organisation/ charity / network
  • What does heritage mean to you?
  • Do you count yourself as a Kingston cultural heritage maker/ producer /promoter /participant/ etc?
  • What do you want to tell people about culture and heritage in Kingston?
  • Do you have a connection to a historical building? Do you live / work there?
  • What cultural and heritage activities in Kingston do you run / promote / share?
  • How are you planning to make Kingston’s cultural heritage more relevant to residents and visitors?
  • How would you like to see more people being involved in Kingston’s cultural heritage?
  • How do you see Kingston’s heritage changing in the future?
  • How will you contribute to Kingston’s heritage?

What happens next?

We hope that you will enjoy this project.  We aim to post them daily on our Facebook page during the two weeks of the Heritage Festival, 11 - 20 September, then keep them on our own website as a record of your contribution.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about this and if you know of anyone else who would be interested in taking part please let them know about the project.

Please send your contribution to local.history@kingston.gov.uk
