Marking the 120th anniversary of Kingston-born photographer Eadweard Muybridge’s death, the exhibition presents a magnificent panorama of San Francisco that Muybridge photographed in 1878.
The over-five-metre-long panorama is one of the highlights of Kingston Museum’s world-class Muybridge collection. The exhibition also features three modern panoramas of the city by American photographer Mark Klett, British artists Tom Pope and James Doyle, and American historian Nick Wright. It also displays different scenes of Kingston in the 19th century and the present day.
Eadweard Muybridge (1830-1904) is best known for his pioneering work in instantaneous photography and moving image projection. He was also an acclaimed landscape photographer, capturing splendid images of the American West, Central America, and many other places.
